UPPCO seeks a personable and professional External Affairs Manager/Account Executive to join their team in Ishpeming, Michigan. The job title depends on the successful applicant’s experience and qualifications. This position will cover UPPCO’s service territory with frequent travel throughout the service area as needed.

The External Affairs Manager/Account Executive will develop and implement strategies that anticipate and exceed the needs of our largest commercial, industrial, municipal and wholesale customers; grow these relationships and partnerships; and, market new products and rates to the mutual benefit of both UPPCO and the customer.


  • Cultivate and manage relationships with assigned customers.
  • Market products and services to new and existing customers.
  • Provide energy-related support regarding rate options, load forecasting, alternative energy sources, onsite cogeneration, and energy waste reduction.
  • Actively participate in community and economic development partnerships.
  • Manage programs and franchise agreements as assigned.
  • Assist customer service staff with commercial and industrial customer inquiries including tariff interpretation, data analysis, and resolution of customer inquiries.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Marketing, Industrial Technology or Engineering preferred.
  • 2 years’ energy industry experience required.
  • 5 years’ experience in business development, external affairs and/or relationship management.
  • Ability to effectively listen and communicate with a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to analyze business needs and deliver options for success or alternative measures in a productive manner.
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with office software (Word, Excel, Outlook calendar/email, PowerPoint).
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the Upper Peninsula covering an assigned service territory. Travel includes day trips to offsite meetings and occasional overnights.
