UPPCO seeks a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician to join their team in Ishpeming, Michigan. In this position, you will use your skills to support key operations by maintaining the accuracy and functionality of our GIS database, playing an essential role in the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our operations.

WHAT YOU WILL DO.
- Maintain and update GIS databases, ensuring accurate and timely data entry.
- Correct errors and discrepancies in GIS data, supporting electrical distribution and modeling systems.
- Assist with creating and updating maps and reports.
- Conduct fieldwork to verify mapping accuracy and update phasing data.
- Collaborate with teams to resolve data issues and discrepancies.
- Support GIS system migrations, database backups, and related tasks.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.
- Certificate or degree in GIS or a related field with GIS coursework required; Environmental Systems Research Institute (Esri) GIS certification preferred.
- 1+ years of experience with GIS database maintenance is required.
- Experience using ArcPro or ArcMap required.
- Experience with database troubleshooting and basic word processing/spreadsheet software.
- 2+ years working with ArcMap by Esri for Electrical Distribution GIS mapping is preferred.
- Familiarity with utility operations, office procedures, and line construction standards helpful.
- A valid driver’s license is required and an ability to travel (minimally).
- Strong mechanical and computational aptitude with an ability to read maps, interpret drawings, and understand technical documents.
- You are skilled at managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines
- Strong ability to thrive in fast-paced environments and effectively manage stress.
- Must reside within 30-minute travel time of assigned location under normal driving conditions is required.
