The Copper Country Intermediate School District is hiring a Special Education Teacher Consultant/Transition Coordinator in Hancock, Michigan.

In this role, you’ll wear many hats—but all in the service of better student outcomes. From supporting secondary special education teachers with IEPs and transition plans to leading professional development and serving as a systems-level problem solver, you’ll be a key resource in helping schools create more effective, inclusive learning environments.

WHAT WE OFFER. 

  • $56,100 – $77,800 annual starting salary based on education and experience.

  • No health insurance needed? We’ll pay you $643.19/month instead (yes, even during the summer break).
  • Paid sick days (10), personal days (4), and paid holidays.

  • Full-time school-year position with a start date in the Fall of 2025. Summers off.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING.

  • Support teachers with IEP development and best practices in special education.
  • Provide hands-on coaching, mentoring, and professional development to local school staff.
  • Coordinate student transition services and help build bridges to vocational and community partners.
  • Lead and support programs like Student Training on Mentoring Peers (STOMP) and the Community Transition Council.
  • Collaborate with schools to improve instructional strategies and student support.
  • Help new and non-certified special education teachers navigate processes and compliance such as IEP development, facilitating meetings, and implementing IEPs.
  • Primarily a non-caseload positions, you may occasionally carry a caseload or provide direct student services as needed.
  • Attend meetings outside of normal working hours and travel within the ISD and state.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.

  • A valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with endorsement in Learning Disabilities (preferred) or any area of Special Education.
  • Master’s degree and at least 3 years of experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of special education law and a passion for helping others grow.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with educators, families, and community agencies.
  • Organizational skills, a collaborative spirit, and a flexible mindset.
  • A calm, confident approach that embodies clear communication skills.
  • Professionalism that inspires, teaches, and motivates educators and families.
