UPPCO seeks an experienced Communications Specialist to join their team in Marquette, Michigan. This position develops and delivers clear, timely and consistent communications that inform employees, customers and other external stakeholders about UPPCO’s operations, initiatives, programs and priorities.

The Communications Specialist is responsible for written communications, content development, graphic design, and communications support across the organization. Working closely with the Manager of Communications & External Affairs and other members of the Communications team, you will translate complex utility information into accessible, audience-appropriate communications across print, digital and other channels.

WHAT YOUR DAY LOOKS LIKE.

  • Write and edit customer communications, news releases, articles, blog content, presentations, bill inserts, and other materials.
  • Turn technical, operational, and regulatory information into clear, easy-to-understand messages.
  • Design advertisements, publications, employee communications, and other print and digital materials.
  • Support communications for major projects, company initiatives, outages, emergencies, and other time-sensitive situations.
  • Coordinate media and public relations activities.
  • Work with departments and leaders to create employee newsletters, announcements, and other internal communications.
  • Coordinate web, email, and social media content with the Digital Communications Specialist.
  • Assist with photography, video, community education events, presentations, and corporate donation activities.
  • Keep communications consistent with UPPCO’s brand standards across print, digital, and other channels.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, or equivalent experience in a related field is preferred.
  • 1 or more years of professional communications or marketing experience is required.
  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience with or working knowledge of public and/or media relations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Good editorial judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and with others.
  • Comfortable moving between creative projects, writing assignments, coordination, and day-to-day administrative work.
  • Electric utility or other regulated-industry communications experience is a plus.
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to travel, on occasion (15%), is required.
