Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO)
UPPCO seeks Contact Center Representatives to join their team in Ishpeming, Michigan. The successful candidates for this position will be responsible for the efficient handling of a high volume of calls regarding residential and commercial billing and collections.
WHAT YOU WILL DO.
- Handle inbound/outbound customer contacts by phone, email, mail, fax, or web chat.
- Process residential and small commercial billing in an accurate and timely manner.
- Perform credit and collection activity on residential and small commercial accounts including calling and scheduling of disconnection activity.
- Participate in the on-call/stand-by rotation, including carrying electronic devices enabling connectivity, and respond to callouts related to customer power outages in a business that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

- Monday-Friday workweek during training is typically 9am-5pm. Shifts are then assigned by seniority after training is completed. Shifts are scheduled Monday-Friday between 6am-9pm. Seniority shift bidding takes place every six months.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.
- Associate degree or higher in Business, Communications, or a related field preferred.
- 2 or more years’ experience working in customer service required; experience with contact center/call center operations, a bonus.
- Experience with billing or collection processes preferred.
- Familiarity/experience with utility processes, tariffs and regulations preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) required.
- Professional, calm and positive nature that works well in a variety of customer contact settings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
- Adaptability to changing priorities and flexibility are a must.
- Excellent time management and organization skills.
- A motivated and self-directed disposition that works well with little direct supervision.
- Must reside within 30 minutes normal drive time of UPPCO’s Ishpeming, Michigan Contact Center.
- Must reside in an area with reliable cell service to ensure both a cell phone and MiFi device function properly during assigned stand-by periods.
