NYCOA seeks a highly motivated Chemical Engineer to join their team in Manchester, New Hampshire. This role is responsible for developing engineering and technical solutions to maximize the quality and productivity of NYCOA’s new and existing products. Chemical Engineers work in the R&D department, and occasionally support Supply Chain, Production, and Quality to understand process impacts and support product development as well as improvements in product performance.
This position initiates and executes projects to completion; projects relate to identifying, evaluating, and integrating performance enhancements (additives, fills, etc.) using NYCOA’s custom nylon chemistries. This commonly involves the use of lab-scale testing equipment, wet lab chemistry tools, and some lab-scale production assets such as extruders, injection molders, etc. As an extension of this engineering work for product development, this role may provide guidance, training, and technical information to Operations colleagues.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluate existing manufacturing processes to identify improvement opportunities (cost-savings, quality issues, etc.) including data analysis on findings.
- Support the development and evaluation of new product modifications (design of experiment preparation and execution, data collection, analysis, and presentation).
- Collaborate with other departments and operators to formulate a plan to resolve identified issues including process changes, equipment modification and new equipment purchase/installation.
- Calculate costing or overall impact to the business.
- Present recommendations to management and Operations group to gain buy-in.
- Implement agreed-upon recommendations including oversight of any equipment purchase/installation/start-up.
- Demonstrate project management skills.
- Perform presentations to Management as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS/DESIRED SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering
- 1-3 years of chemical/manufacturing plant experience required.
- Strong scientific background to ensure effective problem-solving.
- Inquisitive nature (i.e. not afraid to ask “Why?”).
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and prioritize needs to meet project goals.
- Strong computer, written, and oral communication skills.
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience, a plus.
- AutoCAD experience a plus.
