The Iron County Road Commission (ICRC) is seeking a Civil Engineer/Construction Manager to join our team in Iron River, MI. Under the direction of the Superintendent/Manager, you will oversee engineering and construction projects on MDOT, county primary, and local roads.

Schedule:

  • Mid-Oct – May, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, Monday – Friday
  • May – Mid-Oct, 6:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday – Thursday
  • Some overtime may be necessary.

What You’ll Do:

  • Participate in project scoping, design, estimating, bid documents, and contractor coordination for Federal Aid, State-funded projects, and local projects.
  • Assist with fieldwork/construction when necessary.
  • Conduct construction inspections, review contractor invoicing, and maintain project documentation.
  • Utilize tools like ProjectWise, Field Manager, and RoadSoft to ensure compliance with state and federal standards.
  • Assist in preparing annual budget line items for maintenance and road projects.
  • Assist with inventory of ICRC construction/maintenance items: culverts, gravel, sand, salt.
  • Support fieldwork, including survey tasks and PASER roadway ratings, and assist with Act 51 map updates.
  • Act as the primary contact for Miss Dig and assist with Michigan Department of Environment permit applications.
  • Attend seminars, training, and meetings in order to remain well-versed with current and generally accepted engineering standards and guidelines. May represent the Board in dealing with a variety of governmental and public bodies.
  • Other duties as needed.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Licensed Civil Engineer OR Master’s degree or higher in engineering, construction management, or related field required.
  • Previous experience in a governmental setting, familiarity with MDOT project bidding and documentation, and public works or road commission experience desired.
  • Experience with word processing, spreadsheet software, ProjectWise, Roadsoft, Merl, and Field Manager desired.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to walk extended distances and climb stairs, ramps, and natural outdoor grounds.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and manipulate tools, equipment, supplies, and other objects over fifty (50) pounds.
  • Experience with, or the desire to learn, the operation of some heavy equipment (dozer, loader, backhoe, roller) is desirable.
