Houghton Building Supply seeks a full-time Counter Sales Associate to join their team in Houghton, Michigan. All levels of experience encouraged to apply.

This position works with customers, answers telephone inquiries, and maintains products/merchandising displays and pricing. If you like working in a fast-paced environment and enjoy helping others, we want to hear from you!

WHAT WE OFFER.

  • $16 – $21 per hour based on experience.

  • Full-time position working Monday-Friday (8am–5pm) and rotating Saturdays (8am-1pm).

WHAT YOU WILL DO.

  • Meet and greet customers.
  • Maintain a friendly and helpful manner at all times.
  • Direct customers to the appropriate estimator or specialist for their needs.
  • Become familiar with store products and their location.
  • Complete sales, take payments, process returns; identify defective products.
  • Complete small special orders or requests for non-stock items.
  • Help with scheduling deliveries and equipment rental reservations.
  • Assist with inventory receiving and cycle counting as needed.
  • Maintain product pricing and displays on the retail floor; tag items on sale or promotion.
  • Keep displays clean, organized, and attractive in appearance.
  • Stock shelves and catalog displays as needed.
  • Handle customer complaints in a positive and constructive manner.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.

  • Previous experience working with building materials and supplies helpful.
  • You are positive, enjoy helping others, and make customers feel valued.
  • Someone detail-minded and organized—accuracy is second nature to you.
  • You take customer complaints as an opportunity to improve.
  • You are comfortable with computers and learning new software.
  • You can get up to speed quickly and gain a solid understanding of most products within 1 year of hire.
  • You have a great work ethic and show up on time.
  • You are adaptable, require little to no supervision, and can jump in to help others when needed.
