The Michigan Catholic Conference is seeking a Director of Pension and Benefits (Hybrid) to join their team in Lansing, MI. As Director of Pension and Benefits, you are responsible for the strategic management of the employee benefit programs provided by Michigan Catholic Conference to its participating entities and their employees. The Director plays a key role in analyzing and developing Employee Benefit programs and initiatives that support the organization and its goals. As the Employee Benefits Team Lead, the Director is responsible for ensuring the team has the tools necessary to deliver excellent customer service while maintaining plan and legal compliance.

WHAT YOU WILL DO.
- Ensure benefit plans are administered according to applicable Plan Documents, comply with all legislative and regulatory guidelines as they pertain to Church Plans, and are in keeping with Church teaching.
- Lead the Employee Benefit Staff and ensure that they provide excellent customer service to benefit plan participants and their dependents.
- Drive the execution of complex benefit programs and projects.
- Manage relationships with brokers, consultants, insurers, and vendors to ensure timely customer service and accurate cost-effective plan administration.
- Evaluate opportunities for plan enhancements, new plan offerings, and opportunities for cost savings by working closely with benefit consultants and vendors.
- Participate in the documentation and financial analysis for proposed plan design changes, contract negotiations and annual rate analysis.
- Lead the implementation of plan changes and new plan offerings by working collaboratively with vendors and internal departments (IT, Communications, etc.) to achieve a positive outcome.
- Contribute to the development and execution of the organization’s strategic plan and annual goals.
- Collaborate with internal resources and outside vendors to develop innovative Benefits communication plan and create Benefits content on MCC webpage.
- Assist in development of the annual benefits budget.
- Act as HIPPA officer concerning protected health information and vendors.
- Oversee the design of and may conduct benefits meetings at Diocesan and Parish levels.
- Oversee administration of retirement programs for lay and priest plans and attend Pension Plan committee meetings.
- Provide leadership and direction to Employee Benefits staff. Maintaining continuous evaluation of business processes, workflow and staff proficiency.
- Ensure the work of the Employee Benefits Department meets the objectives and standards set by the Board of Directors.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or other related field is strongly preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in benefits administration will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- 5+ years of experience in HR or a benefits leadership role required.
- Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation preferred.
- Practicing Catholic preferred but not required.
- Excellent leadership skills.
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Able to work with a high level of discretion, integrity, and confidentiality.
