If so, Carey-Sodergren has an immediate opening for a Septic Pump Truck Driver (Class A or B CDL) in Negaunee, Michigan. In this position you’ll operate a company service truck, travel to residential and commercial sites, and safely pump and dispose of non-hazardous waste while providing an essential, helpful service to our customers.

WHAT WE OFFER.

  • $28 – $35 per hour starting pay based on your experience.
  • PLUS $1,000 sign-on bonus.

  • You’ll be provided a company truck, which you can take home if you have room to park it safely.

WORK SCHEDULE.

  • Summer Season (May 1 – Oct 31): Full-time Monday–Friday schedule with about 10 hours of overtime each week (or more if you prefer).
  • Winter Season (Nov 1 – Apr 30): Part-time hours as needed (usually around 10 hours per week).
  • Prefer full-time year-round work? You can transition to full-time winter work plowing snow for clients.

WHAT YOU WILL DO.

  • Safely drive and operate a septic pump truck to pump, clean, and remove non-hazardous waste from residential and commercial septic systems.
  • Set up hoses, connect to tanks, and use pumping equipment correctly while following safety guidelines.
  • Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip checks — fluids, tires, tools, and supplies — and keep your truck clean, organized, and ready for the next job.
  • Occasionally uncover septic tank lids or valves, then replace and backfill them; lift and handle hoses, tools, and equipment (50–65 lbs).
  • Provide friendly, clear customer service by explaining the work being done, answering questions, and ensuring each customer feels well cared for.
  • Note any defective system components, buildup, or hazards, and document your findings along with any recommended maintenance.
  • Submit quotes, service paperwork, and work orders accurately and on time.
  • Discuss appropriate service frequency with customers to help them maintain their systems effectively.

  • At least one year of professional commercial driving experience (post-school) preferred.
  • Clean driving record with a reliable and responsible driving history.
  • No restrictions (must be able to drive manual transmission)
  • Good physical fitness and stamina — ability to lift heavy items, climb in/out of the truck, and handle physically demanding work in outside weather conditions.
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, customer-service attitude.
  • Reliability, a good work ethic, and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
