Bay Cliff Health Camp

The search for Bay Cliff Health Camp’s 7th Executive Director is underway. We seek an experienced, purpose-driven leader with a heart for the disability community who can join us in Big Bay, Michigan.

Bay Cliff is a premier, year-round nonprofit therapy and wellness center for individuals with disabilities, best known for its historic summer camp. Nestled in beautiful Big Bay, Michigan, Bay Cliff has been changing lives for 91 years. Our mission is rooted in compassion, community, and empowerment—and our next Executive Director will carry that mission forward with strength and vision.

The right candidate will bring strong leadership experience, an engaging and approachable presence, and the ability to fundraise, influence, and pivot quickly as new opportunities arise. You’ll be both strategic and hands-on—someone who understands that leadership at Bay Cliff means being deeply present in our community.

WHAT WE OFFER.

  • $100,000 annual starting salary based on your knowledge and experience.
  • Health and life insurance—100% of employee premium is paid for by employer.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Flex spending account.
  • Paid time off and paid sick time.
  • Housing is available onsite at no cost to you or your family.
  • Relocation assistance, if needed.

WHAT YOU WILL DO. You’ll serve as a hands-on, mission-driven leader—someone who inspires generosity, builds strong relationships, and keeps both the heart and the operations of the organization beating strong. You will also report to a Board of Directors. Here’s how you’ll make an impact:

  • Lead fundraising with creativity and heart. You’ll take an active role in fundraising efforts—crafting compelling messages, building meaningful relationships, and connecting with donors through mailings, phone calls, social media, newsletters, and face-to-face conversations. You’ll grow both our annual giving and major gift programs.
  • Partner with the Board to move the mission forward. You’ll work alongside our dedicated Board of Directors to align strategic goals, promote the organization, and support ongoing Board development.
  • Guide financial strategy. Working closely with our Finance Committee, you’ll help shape and oversee Bay Cliff’s budget and long-term fiscal health—monitoring revenue and expenses, payables, cash flow, investments, designated donations, and facility-related renovation/construction projects.
  • Ensure sound risk management and compliance. You’ll collaborate with professionals to manage risk, maintain compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, and provide accurate, audited financial reporting.
  • Nurture relationships that sustain our mission. You’ll represent Bay Cliff in the broader community, networking and building relationships with individuals, businesses, organizations, and foundations to grow generous and lasting support.
  • Lead a talented team with empathy and clarity. You’ll hire, supervise, and support the Facilities, Camp, and Food Service Directors as well as all administrative and facilities staff. Your leadership will help create a strong, supportive culture for everyone who works at Bay Cliff.
  • Be a visible and vocal advocate. From marketing and media outreach to community events, you’ll be the face of Bay Cliff—raising awareness, championing our mission, and building momentum for the future.
  • Oversee the responsible use of our facilities and property. You’ll ensure our camp remains a safe and welcoming space by overseeing its use, maintenance, and compliance with all licensing and safety requirements.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher (preferred).
  • A track record of inspiring leadership, team management, and strategic decision-making.
  • Proven experience in fundraising, donor relations, community engagement and making compelling presentations.
  • Human resource experience, especially in staff development and retention.
  • A strong background in financial management and budgeting.
  • The ability to deliver compelling messages and connect with diverse audiences—staff, board, donors, volunteers, and campers alike.
  • A willingness to relocate to Big Bay, Michigan (Marquette County) or the surrounding area, and travel throughout Michigan’s Upper Peninsula (and adjacent areas) to be the face and voice of Bay Cliff.
  • Someone who embraces winter and the demands of working in a camp environment.
