POSITION SUMMARY

Position is accountable for ensuring safe and environmentally sound operation of the production unit (including reactors and spray dryer) while maximizing the output of PVP Powder and Liquid Copolymers that meet or exceed the expectations of our customers.

JOB DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Works with the Operations Manager, Process Operators, and other plant support individuals to manufacture products for our customers and accomplish the goals and objectives of the Production department. 
• Monitors all operating equipment in the production unit to ensure that the process stays in control.
• Operates local and remote instrumentation to make necessary adjustments to ensure that products are manufactured that meet or exceed customer specifications.
• Supports and provides input on technical programs and procedures designed to optimize unit production and improve the manufacturing process. 
• Performs operational tasks to start up, shut down and make changes in the process.
• Records accurate readings and keeps logs and fills out batch records, all to cGMP standards.
• Makes minor adjustments and repairs to process equipment.
• Draws samples to be taken to the laboratory.
• Complies with all plant safety rules and reports all incidents and events to immediate supervision for corrective action.
• Attends all departmental safety meetings and actively supports and participates in safety programs and implementations, i.e., Emergency Response Teams.
• Complies with all Ashland plant policies, procedures, and practices applicable to the Production Department.
• Participates in various Company and regulatory training designed to improve plant processes and/or increase unit production.
• Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of four (4) years prior process operator experience in the Chemical or Petrochemical industries is required. High School diploma or equivalent is required. Must have a valid driver’s license to operate plant vehicles. Prior experience must include being knowledgeable in chemical process manufacturing, plant safety rules and regulations, Process Safety Management (PSM), current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), environmental compliance standards, site quality processes, and emergency response requirements. 

The candidate must possess a high level of mechanical aptitude, be an effective communicator, possess basic computer competencies, be willing to serve on the Emergency Response Team, and be capable of and willing to working rotating shift, holidays and overtime, as may be required. In addition, the individual must also be able to work in confined spaces and from elevated areas within the plant. Travel within the state of Texas or within the United States may be required for training purposes.

PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Individual must be able to respond appropriately during site emergencies as directed by the Site Emergency Director. The candidate must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment if required to work or visit within the manufacturing process area. This may include hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, or other equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

Individual must be able to identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of plant management.

Individual must also be capable of identifying quality improvement opportunities and formulating action plans for implementation. This requires exceptional work planning and problem-solving skills.

Other physical requirements for this position include:

• Walking and climbing six flights of stairs and standing while running batches.
• Bending and stooping while checking pumps, valves, motors, etc.
• Moving pallets of drums with hand truck.
• Filling, shoving, and sealing drums of co-polymer up to 450 lbs. each.
• Climbing on and off a tow motor.
• Maneuvering and rolling PVP powder drums up to 110 lb. 
• Stooping, bending, reaching, and climbing while assembling and disassembling PVP spray dryers.
• Climbing tank wagon loading rack and onto tank wagons to maneuver fill hose while loading wagons.
• Climbing storage tanks, checking for problems, and getting equipment ready for maintenance.

Individual must be authorized to work in the US.
