Are you excited about history, hospitality, and creating memorable experiences for visitors? The Quincy Mine Hoist Association seeks a Gift Shop Manager to be the friendly face and operational hub of our historic site in Hancock, Michigan.
Quincy Mine is a must-see destination, drawing over 20,000 visitors each year from across the region, the country, and even the world. Our Gift Shop is the gateway to the Quincy experience, where guests pick up the perfect keepsake, schedule a tour, or browse our extensive library. As Gift Shop Manager, you’ll play a key role in making every visitor’s experience exceptional.
WHAT WE OFFER.
- $42,000 annual starting salary. For someone well experienced in retail and inventory management this is negotiable and will be based on your knowledge and experience.
- Paid time off and schedule flexibility. The successful candidate must be flexible to work evening and weekend hours if needed.
- Year-round position. Gift Shop is open 7 days a week including holidays. Don’t worry—you won’t work every day as you will be scheduling staff for adequate coverage to accommodate operating hours. Hours are reduced during the winter months, with the possibility of completing some work remotely.
WHAT YOU WILL DO.
- Take charge of all Gift Shop operations (staffing, training, scheduling, etc.).
- Manage inventory, monitor sales performance with point-of-sale system, and generate routine financial operations reports.
- Work closely with the Executive Director to keep the shop running smoothly and efficiently.
- Ensure guests always receive top-notch service, whether they’re exploring the shop or planning a tour.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.
- We’re looking for someone with a background in business, retail, or hospitality, such as a degree in Business Administration or Management, Retail Management, Hospitality Management or Tourism, Marketing, or other related fields like Accounting, Finance, or Communications. Don’t have a degree? If you have strong experience in retail management, inventory control, staff supervision, and financial oversight, we’d love to hear from you too.
- Experience managing inventory, staff, and point-of-sale systems is required (Lightspeed Retail POS is a bonus).
- Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
- Someone self-directed, idea-driven, and always looking for ways to improve operations.
- Comfortable living in—or relocating to—the Houghton/Keweenaw, Michigan area is required.
