Hawthorne Vision Center is seeking a dependable and conscientious professional to join their team as an Optometric Technician in Portland, OR. This individual will also cross train as a Patient Coordinator. As an Optometric Technician, you will be responsible for preparing patients for their eye exams and performing diagnostic tests. As a patient coordinator you will help keep patient care flowing efficiently. In both roles you’ll play a key role in our commitment to treating every patient like family and maintaining a high standard of excellence in all aspects of care.

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • Starting wage of $18 per hour, based on education and experience, with commission and bonus opportunities available
  • Medical and dental coverage after 60 days of employment.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Assist our optometrists in providing excellent care.
  • Greet and prepare patients for their visit.
  • Gather medical history, take measurements, and conduct preliminary tests.
  • Operate specialized equipment including OCT, retinal camera, and visual field-testing machines.
  • Ensure accurate and thorough documentation.
  • Communicate with patients through our many electronic systems.
  • Provide patients guidance on proper eyewear care and contact lens handling.
  • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of professional ocular equipment.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience working in a medical setting is preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and self-motivation.
  • Saturday availability from 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. is required.
  • While not mandatory, knowledge of medical terminology is helpful.
  • Committed to high-quality work, even when tasks are routine or time-sensitive
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to follow procedures and operate diagnostic equipment.
