Laser North
Laser North, a laser cutting and fabrication specialist, seeks a Quality Control Technician to join their growing team in Baraga, Michigan. This role is a key partner to our shop floor and leadership team, helping ensure the parts we produce consistently meet (and exceed) customer expectations. You’ll take ownership of quality projects, support continuous improvement, and help keep our quality systems strong, practical, and effective.
If you’re the kind of person who naturally spots the details, enjoys making sense of how things work, and feels a little extra proud when the final product is just right, you’ll feel right at home here. We’re looking for someone who loves quality, thrives on teamwork, and enjoys solving problems along the way—if that sounds like you, this might be your perfect next move.
What We Offer:
- $22.00 – $28.00 per hour based on skills and experience.
- Medical, dental, prescription drug, and vision coverage.
- Discretionary, performance-based bonus.
- 401(k) retirement plan.
- Paid time off.
- Skills and safety training.
- Company provided apparel, plus reimbursement for safety footwear and prescription safety glasses.
- Safe, clean, and bright work environment.
What You Will Do. You will be part quality champion, part problem-solver, and part go-to resource for the team.
- Be the friendly voice of quality on the shop floor—sharing goals, ideas, and raising flags when something doesn’t look quite right.
- Help teammates understand why quality matters and how their work directly impacts our customers.
- Translate customer requirements into clear, workable expectations across departments.
- Support the Quality Control team with inspections, documentation, tools, and resources.
- Build and manage Quality Control Plans that keep projects and processes running smoothly.
- Review customer and vendor requirements to make sure every part meets the mark.
- Complete inspection packages that meet both internal standards and customer expectations.
- Jump in on inspections as needed to support final inspection and keep production moving.
- Help strengthen and improve our ISO-based quality processes (we like them practical and useful).
- Assist with internal audits to keep our Quality Management System on point.
- Dig into corrective/preventive actions, including root cause analysis (8D), to help prevent repeat issues.
- Take the lead on gage calibration—making sure our measurement tools are accurate, and ready to go.
- Partner closely with the QC Manager on quality systems, ERP/MRP tools, and continuous improvement.
- Lend a quality perspective during contract reviews when extra support is helpful.
- Pitch in on other projects as they come up—because quality touches everything we do.
What We Are Looking For. You don’t need to know everything—but curiosity, accountability, and a good attitude go a long way here.
- 2+ years manufacturing experience preferred; experience with metal manufacturing processes a bonus.
- Comfortable reading blueprints and interpreting GD&T.
- Introductory knowledge of ISO-based quality systems.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems preferred.
- Proficiency in Google Apps and Microsoft Office.
- Organized, hands-on, dependable, and detail-oriented.
- A positive, collaborative team player who communicates well.
- Able to listen, adapt quickly, and clearly communicate in writing and conversation.
