The Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson seeks a full-time Social Worker to join their team of healthcare professionals in Iron Mountain, Michigan.

The ideal person for this position has a compassionate nature able to provide assessment and psychosocial support to patients, families and caregivers, collaboratively working toward objectives of achieving the best possible quality of life.


  • $51,064 – $79,476 annual salary based on experience.

  • Full-time Monday-Friday position (36 hours per week) with start times of 7:30am or 8am.


  • Provide direct social work services to patients and families, addressing social, environmental, financial, and emotional issues.
  • Assist patients and families in coping with stress and anxiety related to medical conditions.
  • Facilitate patient placement in nursing homes and home health, and seek options for financial aid, chore services, transportation, and nutrition programs.
  • Develop and coordinate discharge plans, referring patients to appropriate social services and community resources.
  • Consult with hospital staff, community agencies, and medical staff to resolve patient problems and interpret social/psychological, emotional and family issues.
  • Coordinate the hospital swing bed program and monitor patient eligibility; inform physicians of potential candidates; inform Quality Improvement Committee on program use and any roadblocks.
  • Lead and direct special projects as needed.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a related degree required.
  • Certification as a Social Worker in the State of Michigan required.
  • Experience in an acute care hospital or healthcare agency preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of community health, welfare, and social agencies.
  • Understanding of medical terminology.
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills with a professional demeanor that ensures trust, competence and compassion amongst patients and team members.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-hire drug screening and background check.
