VanAire

VanAire seeks a Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Gladstone, Michigan. This position supports the design, development, and continuous improvement of our Engineered Valve Automation Hardware (EVAH) product line.

This is not a “sit in a corner and model parts all day” engineering job. You are close to the product, close to the shop floor, and close to the people who use what you design. You get to work in a manufacturing environment where engineering decisions have visible impact. The right person will enjoy asking questions like: Can we make this stronger? Easier to build? More reliable? More consistent? Better for the customer? And then actually doing something about it.

Whether you are building your engineering foundation, ready to own projects, or prepared to lead complex product improvements, we have a place for you. This role may be hired as a Mechanical Engineer I, Mechanical Engineer II, or Senior Mechanical Engineer, based on your experience, technical capabilities, and demonstrated readiness to lead.

WHAT WE OFFER. This role may be filled at one of three levels based on experience and capability.

  • Mechanical Engineer I (support & learning; typically 1-2 yrs experience): $65,000 – $80,000 annually.
  • Mechanical Engineer II (project ownership; typically 3-6 yrs experience): $80,000 – $95,000 annually.
  • Senior Mechanical Engineer (system leadership; typically 7+ yrs experience): $95,000 – $115,000 annually.
  • Company paid medical insurance; optional dental and vision insurance.
  • Health Savings Account.
  • Simple IRA retirement plan with company matching contribution.
  • Profit sharing (paid twice yearly).
  • Paid time off and paid holidays.
  • Wellness activities and tuition reimbursement programs.
  • Relocation assistance, if needed.

WHAT YOU WILL DO.

  • Design and develop mechanical components and systems for our EVAH product line, with a focus on quality, reliability, safety, manufacturability, and long-term performance.
  • Establish, maintain, and apply engineering standards for design, materials, and finishes.
  • Perform and interpret Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in accordance with company and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure designs align with production capabilities and resolve production-related issues.
  • Partner with engineering, sales, customers, and IT to support product and system alignment.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts that enhance efficiency, quality, and responsiveness.
  • Stay current with industry standards and best practices, including participation in relevant industry committees.
  • Represent VanAire at trade shows, conferences, and through technical publications.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field is required.
  • Experience with solid modeling CAD software, FEA software, ERP/MRP systems, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong engineering judgment with a practical, detail-oriented approach to design.
  • Ability to create designs that are reliable, manufacturable, and aligned with customer needs.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work with and within a team.
  • Collaborative mindset and willingness to support products from design through production.
  • Manufacturing experience is preferred; experience with valve automation hardware, mechanical assemblies, fabricated components, or other industrial products is a plus.
  • Experience developing, maintaining, or applying engineering standards preferred.
