West Iron County Public Schools

West Iron County Public Schools is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic 5th Grade Science and/or Social Studies Teacher to join their team in Iron River, Michigan.

Fifth grade is an exciting time for students as they become more independent, ask bigger questions, and begin connecting what they learn in the classroom to the world around them.

We’re looking for an educator who enjoys inspiring young minds, recognizes that every student learns differently, and brings creativity and enthusiasm to the classroom. Someone who can make learning engaging and meaningful while creating a positive, supportive environment where students build confidence, explore new ideas, and develop the skills they need to succeed.

WHAT WE OFFER.

  • $44,739 – $77,205 annual starting salary based on education and years of experience.
  • Health insurance. No health insurance needed? We’ll pay you $115.38 – $284.61/month instead based on your coverage (yes, even during the summer break).
  • Dental, vision, life, and accidental death/dismemberment insurance at no cost to the employee; employer pays 100% of premiums.
  • Paid Time Off: 12 sick days and 3 personal days, with the option to exchange 2 sick days for additional personal days.
  • Michigan Public School Employee Retirement Plan (MPSERS).
  • Professional development assistance and opportunities for advancement.
  • Full-time school-year position with summers off.

WHAT YOUR DAY LOOKS LIKE.

  • Plan, deliver, and assess engaging Science and/or Social Studies instruction that supports student learning and academic growth.
  • Create a nurturing, and organized classroom environment where students feel valued and motivated.
  • Use effective instructional strategies, creativity, and technology to make learning meaningful and accessible.
  • Adapt teaching approaches to accommodate different learning needs and abilities.
  • Encourage curiosity, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow educators, school staff, and families to support student success.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate required.
  • Experience helps, but heart matters just as much. Previous elementary teaching experience is certainly valuable, but we’re also looking for someone who genuinely enjoys helping students learn, grow, and succeed. A strong commitment to students, families, and continued learning matters just as much as the number of years you’ve spent in a classroom.
  • Background in direct instruction, including planning, delivering, and assessing student learning.
  • Strong creative, collaborative, and communication skills.
  • Experience teaching in a 1:1 technology classroom.
