Signature Research, Inc. seeks a collaborative, sharp-minded Software Engineering Manager to lead our Modeling & Simulation team supporting advanced, classified Department of Defense programs. This is a rare opportunity to guide a talented team of software developers and physicists working at the intersection of AI, simulation, and synthetic imagery—while helping shape the strategic vision of our engineering services in partnership with our company president.
This is a hybrid remote position. Ideally, candidates live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan or Northern Wisconsin as you will need to be onsite in Calumet, Michigan for a week at a time every 45-60 days.
WHAT WE OFFER.
- $150,000 – $180,000 annual starting wage based on your knowledge and experience.

- Full-time, Monday – Friday position.
- Hybrid remote schedule. On-site presence in Calumet, Michigan required approximately one week every 45–60 days to collaborate with your team and drive progress forward.
- Relocation assistance available if you prefer to be onsite with your team in our Calumet location full-time.
WHAT YOU WILL DO.
- Lead, inspire, and mentor a team of roughly a dozen software engineers and scientists delivering complex, meaningful M&S solutions.
- Collaborate closely with senior leadership to define and execute a long-term vision for the company’s engineering services.
- Translate high-level program goals into achievable development tasks that meet scope, schedule, and budget expectations.
- Communicate directly with senior leaders and customers on both classified and unclassified programs.
- Contribute technically—writing, reviewing, and developing software in C++, Julia, and Python.
- Oversee the creation of physically accurate computational models and apply ML/AI object detection techniques to advance multispectral synthetic imagery and computer vision development.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Applied Mathematics or a related technical field; Master’s degree preferred; PhD is a plus (especially with experience in synthetic imagery or AI/ML for defense systems).
- Required: leadership experience with engineers, strong programming background in C++ or Python. Preferred: Julia, synthetic imagery, Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI).
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with researchers, engineers, and executive leadership.
- Strategic thinker who embraces innovation, accountability, and forward momentum.
- Ability to celebrate wins, take ownership of failures, and not afraid to take risks.
- A valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the United States (less than 20%) is required.
